eHealth4U
3AHealth is the technical coordinator, lead software developer and integrator, of the eHealth4U: Integrated National eHealth Ecosystem project funded by the Research and Innovation Foundation of Cyprus.
Publishable Summary: eHealth4U undertakes the challenge of defining the structure and content of Cyprus’ integrated Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Our vision is that the outcome and reference implementation of the project will establish the foundations of the country’s broader eHealth ecosystem adhering to the Electronic Health Law of Cyprus (No.59(I)/2019).
Overall, the objective is to elevate the national eHealth ecosystem, by delivering a prototype EHR system at national level, which will safeguard quality of care by considering data interoperability, standardization, privacy, confidentiality, and security, -by design. Importantly, in eHealth4U, our approach evolves around the needs of the citizens who is the sole-owner of the EHR content and hence our system is build using a citizen centric philosophy.
To address the primary limiting factor of the healthcare industry today, that of fragmented cross-system data exchange, we leverage state of the art interoperability standards and profiles in line with EU recommendations and directions. We articulated an interoperability framework based on the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard by HL7, one of the most prevalent healthcare interoperability standards. The framework also utilizes the IHE interoperability profiles proposed by the EU under the 1025/2012 directive in 2015 while adopts the provisions of the 2016 eHealth network guideline on the electronic exchange of health data under Cross-Border Directive 2011/24/EU.
